Sierra Storytelling Festival – Our First Event

Sierra Storytelling Festival – Our First Event

Wow! Our opening weekend was a great success! It was a hard push at the end, but everything came together just in time, and we made it to the festival. The first night we sold about 65 pizzas, most of them were in the space of one hour, and while it was a little hectic, we pulled it all off, and everyone loved it! The second day of the festival we sold out of pizza just as the dinner break was over, and we sold our last piece of pie just before closing up, perfect timing! Sunday was a little more mellow, but still a good solid run, who says you can’t have pizza for brunch? 😉 All told I think we made about 275 pizzas over the weekend, and 15 pies, and we managed to do it all on 4 hours of sleep each night… It was a great crowd, and a great way to kick off The Pie Place!

Here’s a little time line, starting Thursday night. Enjoy the photos!

Crunch Time

Crunch Time

It’s Crunch Time! This is Thursday, our first job starts Friday evening. What to do? Well…..make window/popout frames, install said frames, install counter top for the oven, install oven, install fridge, (Yes! We bought a fridge! Got delivered Wednesday. All the electrical also went in Wednesday.), install all the gas plumbing for the oven….Oh, and start cooking, so we actually have something to feed people on Friday… 🙂

Painting the Outside

Painting the Outside

The trailer is starting to take shape and get some character. The roof is now a shiny silver, and Nathan worked until 10pm painting the outside a bright red. We wouldn’t want you to miss us in the crowd! 😉

Some pictures of the process below.

More Phase 2 & Phase 4 Painting….

More Phase 2 & Phase 4 Painting….

Ok, so maybe phases weren’t the best way to categorize. 🙂 But here’s some more construction, and the inside is painted! It’s white, so it doesn’t look all that different in the photos, but it’s nice in person.

The curves on the side are re-purposed from steel drums that used to contain olive oil, we thought that was pretty perfect! We thought we would have to have them made for us, and then just in the nick of time Tom realized that the steel drums were the perfect diameter, so saved some money, and new materials.

Stay tuned for more, we are working on the plumbing and electrical as you read this, things are changing fast!

Phase 3 – Priming

Phase 3 – Priming

And now we get to start painting it! This is just the primer, but it sure is looking better already.

The Pie Place Goes Mobile!

The Pie Place Goes Mobile!

Phase One: Deconstruction

Welcome to The Pie Place blog! We’d like to share some photos of our process re-purposing a 90s era stock trailer into a fabulous rolling pizza machine. A lot of the work in the beginning was deconstruction and cleaning and grinding and hammering…lots of loud noises and not a lot to show for it. But go ahead and take a look for yourself!
